Yunnan Province: China's Gateway to Southeast Asia
Explore the diverse ethnic cultures, ancient trade towns, and dramatic mountain landscapes of China's southern Yunnan province.
A Land of Diversity
Yunnan, meaning 'South of the Clouds,' is one of China's most geographically and culturally diverse provinces. It shares borders with Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, and is home to 25 of China's 56 recognized ethnic groups.
From the tropical rainforests of Xishuangbanna to the snow-capped peaks bordering Tibet, Yunnan offers a spectacular transition of climates and landscapes.

The Ancient Tea Horse Road
Yunnan was the birthplace of Pu'er tea and a key node on the Ancient Tea Horse Road—a network of caravan paths winding through the mountains to Tibet and Southeast Asia. Towns like Dali and Lijiang preserve this history with cobblestone streets and traditional houses.
Be sure to hike the Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world, offering spectacular views of the Yangtze River rushing beneath towering jade peaks.
